By Nelson Walker
This year Motion has launched an Expert Advisory Board and in this blog post you are going to get to know our expert advisers a little better and learn more about how the board is helping Motion this year!
The board has been set up to bring together experts from relevant industries, such as healthcare, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and indeed the Motion team itself to grow and enhance Motion.
Across the board there is a wide range of skills, expertise and decades of experience that will be invaluable in supporting key decision-making as we continue on this exciting Motion journey!
Now let’s meet Motion’s first five expert advisers!

My experience: I have worked in care homes doing exercise classes for four years and I have expertise in front-end technology development within MedTech. I am experienced in market analysis, technology landscaping, competitor landscaping, end-user interviews, among other things.
Rebecca Turner: Research Associate
Place of work: University of Manchester.
My experience: I am a psychologist and experienced health services researcher. My main research interests are in working with clinical teams to support healthcare professional behaviour change and implementing new technologies.
I am also interested in the application of behavioural science, and development and evaluation of complex interventions. I have worked more specifically within the field of exercise oncology clinical research and trials to support the integration of exercise referral into cancer care pathways.
Jamie Pearson: F2 Doctor
Where do I work? In the NHS Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
My experience: I am a junior doctor working in Sheffield and have a keen interest in exercise and improving health outcomes through community programmes.
Gary Wood: Academic Director
Place of work: NMITE.
My experience: I am Academic Director at NMITE. I am also a National Teaching and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a specialist in learning, teaching and assessment.
I lead delivery and development of new approaches to engineering education through challenge-led, industry-linked programmes. I also contribute to regional skills development, using my expertise in employability, professional skills and entrepreneurship education.
Jane Lothian: Lead Officer
Place of work: Northumberland Local Medical Committee.
My experience: Over my career I have worked across the health service including in the pharmaceutical industry, public health and medical law.
For the last 25 years I have worked in Northumberland as a GP and have been responsible for the running and commissioning of community services, including those for older people such as what is provided by Motion.
I am a keen advocate of physical and non-tablet treatments for older people and am thus enthusiastic about the work Motion are involved in.
We hope you have now got to know our expert advisers a bit better and can see how they are going to be supporting and helping Motion out going forwards!
